There’s so much content out there, but most people only get to enjoy videos in languages they understand. Meta aims to break those barriers by expanding their AI translation features to more languages.
Meta first introduced AI-powered translations for Reels in August 2025, but this tool only included English and Spanish. Two months later, Meta added Hindi and Portuguese translations. But it doesn’t stop there.
On January 16th, 2026, Meta announced that it’s adding five new languages, more than doubling the existing language list. Facebook and Instagram users will now be able to translate to Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, and Kannada in their Reels.
The Impact of Added Languages
The biggest single market for Facebook and Instagram is India by far, so adding more languages spoken in India will help creators significantly increase their audience reach. Before, users likely skipped content that wasn’t in their language, but now, they can view translated content from several different languages.
When people think of translation, they likely picture captions in a different language. However, this feature creates translated audio that mimics the creator’s voice and tone to make the video feel as authentic as possible. If the creator has enabled the lip syncing feature, the audio will match up to the person’s mouth movements too.
Users can adjust their settings to decide which languages they want to show up in their feeds. Translated Reels will be labeled, allowing transparency while enjoying a wider variety of videos.
How to Use Reel’s AI Translation
Reels can’t be translated without the creator’s permission. If you want to take advantage of this feature, here are the steps to follow:
1. Create a Reel.
2. Tap “Translate your voice with Meta AI” to choose if you want to enable or disable Meta AI translations.
3. Choose if you want to enable or disable lip syncing.
4. Go to “Select languages” to choose which languages you want to translate to.
5. Review your translated Reel by tapping “Review before publishing.”
6. Click “Share Now” to publish your Reel.

Creators who have a Page or have Professional Mode turned on can use these translation features if they have over 1,000 followers. This feature is still new, so it may be improved and include more languages in the future.
Why Language Translation Matters for Your Brand
Translating your videos can help you reach a wider audience. If you’re marketing your brand through Instagram and/or Facebook, consider using AI translation so customers that speak different languages can still find your products and services.
