Anthropic’s Unhinged Super Bowl Commercials Announce No Ads on Claude

A series of ads for the 2026 Super Bowl feature AI chatbots in human form, promoting Claude’s commitment to ad-free responses.

About a week and a half before the Super Bowl LX, Anthropic shared its creative commercial series that will be featured during the big game. Each ad features a person talking to someone who converses like how an AI would respond. At first, the concept is unsettling. But after seeing the ad’s purpose, it turns out to be a fun way for Anthropic to promote the lack of advertisements on its AI platform, Claude.

What are Anthropic’s Super Bowl Ads?

Anthropic created a series of commercials that feature a conversation between two people. One person is asking a question while the other person responds like an AI. Some of the questions featured in these ads include “what do you think of my business idea?”, “can I get a six pack quickly?”, and “how can I communicate better with my mom?”

In the commercials, the “AI” starts by offering standard advice. But then, it suddenly shifts to recommending a product that the person didn’t even ask for. In the business idea commercial, the “AI” tries to recommend a loan company while the six pack one recommends insoles that add height. While these products are sort of relevant, they’re not necessary for what the person initially asked and come from questionable assumptions.

The commercials end by saying “Ads are coming to AI. But not to Claude.” Essentially, Anthropic is saying that these are the types of conversations you might have to worry about on other AI platforms, but theirs is different.

Why Doesn’t Claude Have Advertisements?

Many popular AI platforms like ChatGPT are planning to include ads in the near future. While it could be a great way for these companies to increase revenue, Anthropic wants nothing to do with it. Anthropic stated that including ads in conversations would go against Claude’s purpose of being “a genuinely helpful assistant for work and for deep thinking.”

When someone asks AI a question, the model must search for insightful information to share. If a platform has ads, it also needs to figure out if the conversation has an opportunity for a product purchase. If so, it needs to find a sponsored product to suggest. This takes away from the informative aspect of the conversation, making it feel more like a sponsored post than actual advice.

Even ads outside of the chat responses won’t appear on Claude. Anthropic believes that Claude should be “a clear space to think and work,” and ads would clutter that space.

Anthropic said: “Our experience of using the internet has made it easy to assume that advertising on the products we use is inevitable. But open a notebook, pick up a well-crafted tool, or stand in front of a clean chalkboard, and there are no ads in sight. We think Claude should work the same way.”
