Claude Opus 4.7 launched at the end of April 2026, and Anthropic is already building on that success with a new version. Claude Opus 4.8 improves across several key benchmarks and introduces new features to improve the speed and accuracy of work.
Opus 4.8’s New Capabilities
4.7 has lots of impressive benefits, including improvements in coding and decision-making. 4.8 builds on the strengths while advancing other areas of the model.
Collaboration
Opus 4.8 makes it easier for teams to use Claude during collaboration. Early testers like Shopify and Genspark reported sharper, more reliable judgement from the new model. It can better handle complex tasks by asking the right questions and correcting its own mistakes.
Honesty
Another key improvement is honesty. AI can make mistakes, which is why it’s advised to fact-check the information. Some AI models have confidently made claims without enough evidence. However, Opus 4.8 is more likely to flag uncertainties in its own responses rather than make unsupported claims.
When running a test for misaligned behavior, Opus 4.8 was about four times less likely to allow flaws in code than Opus 4.7 and Sonnet 4.6.
Opus 4.8 Compared to Other Models
Claude Opus 4.8’s system card includes a wide range of capability evaluations to showcase the improvements compared to older AI models. Some notable benchmarks are agentic coding, multidisciplinary reasoning, agentic computer use, knowledge work, and agentic financial analysis, where it ranked better than Opus 4.7, GPT-5.5, and Gemini 3.1 Pro. It outranked Opus 4.7 and Gemini 3.1 Pro for agentic terminal coding but still fell behind GPT-5.5.
Other Anthropic Updates
Opus 4.8 was one of several recent updates from Anthropic. A few other changes have been made to further improve AI.
Dynamic Workflows
This is a new feature that helps Claude handle bigger tasks in Claude Code. Claude can run hundreds of parallel subagents in a single session, and it can run even longer with Opus 4.8. Dynamic workflows is currently available in research preview for Enterprise, Team, and Max plans.
Effort Control
You can now control the amount of effort put into a response for Claude and Cowork. The highest effort setting allows Claude to think deeply and more frequently, and the lowest effort setting responds faster while using up a user’s rate limit slower. All plans can use this setting.
Messages API
The Messages API is now capable of accepting system entries inside the messages array, meaning developers can change the prompt instructions in the middle of a task without interrupting the process. It can be helpful for adding context and permission while the agent runs.
AI Tools Help Drive Performance
Claude Opus 4.8 is now available for the same price as 4.7. With updates occurring so frequently, it’s likely that Claude and other AI models will continue to expand and grow as technology advances.
