Gemini’s Flash models focus on speed without sacrificing quality. Gemini Flash 3.5 became the company’s default model because of its strong abilities to deliver quick responses while maintaining high intelligence.
Like all AI models, there’s always room for improvement. Google built on the success of the Gemini Flash line to release three new models in July 2026: 3.6 Flash, 3.5 Flash-Lite, and 3.5 Flash Cyber.
What Do These New Flash Models Offer?
All three of Gemini’s new models are built to have a perfect balance between efficiency and quality, but each one works best for different scenarios.
3.6 Flash
Google took customer and developer feedback from 3.5 into account to create 3.6 Flash. It’s designed to offer improved coding, knowledge work, computer use, and multimodal performance.
On the Artificial Analysis Index, its output token usage was 17% less than 3.5. With better efficiency, it also costs less per agentic task for this newer model to operate. Overall, it’s proving to offer a huge enhancement in both cost and quality, which is the goal of Flash models.
3.5 Flash-Lite
Flash-Lite is a faster and more cost-effective version of Flash. It’s designed for high-volume repetitive tasks, but it’s not as strong for deep reasoning or complex planning. It proves its speed by running at 350 output tokens per second, according to the Artificial Analysis Index.
Previous versions of Flash-Lite were also fast, but this update shows better quality than before. Computer use is now a built-in tool to help the model reliably support high-volume tasks across all thinking levels.
3.5 Flash Cyber
3.5 Flash Cyber is paired with Google’s CodeMender code security agent. This highly efficient model focuses on cybersecurity tasks, such as detecting, validating, and patching code security problems.
Cyber was built using 3.5 Flash and then adjusted with the abilities to find cybersecurity issues at a lower cost than other models. CodeMender uses multiple 3.5 Flash Cyber agents at once to create combined cybersecurity reports.
