Apple’s Siri uses AI technology to listen to voices and answer questions. Yet, it lacks the back-and-forth conversational abilities that AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini demonstrate. While Apple hadn’t initially planned on incorporating a chatbot into its software, other phone brands like Samsung and Google have already implemented this feature, putting Apple at risk of falling behind.
To keep up with trends, Apple is transforming Siri into an AI chatbot with features like ChatGPT. This chatbot, code-named Campos, is expected to release in late 2026.
What Makes the New Siri Different?
Rather than having one-off chat experiences that end after your question gets answered, Apple will be weaving AI into all its features. Users will be able to more easily interact with Siri by typing and talking, resulting in an ongoing conversation that resembles what you’d get from ChatGPT.
Apple’s new chatbot will be able to search the internet for information, create content, generate images, summarize information, and analyze uploaded files. Since it’s built into your phone, it can even locate personal data when requested, such as specific files, images, text messages and songs.
With this update, users will have a lot more options when they ask Siri something. They could ask Siri to find specific photos based on a description or write a message to a friend with a list of upcoming plans from the calendar.
At this time, it’s unclear how much of previous discussions the chatbot will be allowed to remember. Many existing chatbots use past conversations to create relevant, personalized responses. However, Apple is considering limiting those capabilities so users can maintain privacy.
Stay Tuned for Apple’s AI Updates
This major change is separate from the Apple updates coming in the next few months, which includes AI-powered personalization features being added to Siri. It’s believed that Apple will officially announce Campos at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June 2026, which is likely when we’ll get a more accurate launch date.
During this process, Apple is partnering with Google so it can use a custom Google Gemini AI model for its chatbot version of Siri. It will run a high-end version of that model, creating a chatbot similar to Gemini 3.
AI Chatbots Aren’t Going Anywhere
People use AI chatbots every day. Now that they’re being integrated into phones, they’ll become an even bigger part of people’s lives. It’s important for brands to acknowledge this trend so they can market their products and services effectively.
