Instacart and OpenAI already have a longstanding partnership, but they’re elevating that relationship even further. The Instacart app in ChatGPT not only allows users to browse groceries, but they’ll now be able to build their carts and check out in ChatGPT.

The two companies have worked together since early 2023 when Instacart became one of the first plugins in ChatGPT. Instacart has supported OpenAI since then, such as when they provided valuable feedback amid the launch of OpenAI Operator.
By building on their existing partnership, Instacart and OpenAI are now making it easier than ever for users to go grocery shopping.
New Aspects of This Partnership
On December 8th, 2025, OpenAI announced that they would be deepening their relationship with Instacart. The new features allow users to do everything they need with Instacart without having to leave ChatGPT.
Now, people can use the Instacart app within ChatGPT to get meal suggestions, help with meal planning, browse products, build a cart, and order groceries all in one spot. By simply asking ChatGPT to help them shop for items on Instacart, the Instacart app will open within ChatGPT. ChatGPT may also suggest the Instacart app the person mentions food, recipes, or meal ideas in their prompts.
When users connect to the Instacart app and sign in, Instacart can find the items they’re looking for from local retailers with the help of AI. It’ll offer a ready-to-review cart that users can pay for without having to switch tabs.
